Although hair serves many functions for our bodies, humans have
been expanding great effort to remove unwanted body hair since
the dawn of civilization. Shaving, waxing, tweezing, chemicals
and electrolysis are all used with varying degrees of success.
Unfortunately, these methods are time consuming, may be painful
and can cause swelling, rashes, infection and scarring.
Laser
assisted hair removal can be done with several types of lasers,
also with varying degrees of success. The problem with the
majority of other lasers on the market is the risk of blistering
and pigmentary changes to your skin from the treatment itself.
Laser assisted hair removal, with the Medlite IV, is the first
lasting hair removal treatment program with no side effects.
How does the laser remove hair?
The Medlite IV is a Q-Switched, Nd:YAG Laser. It produces a burst
of energy in the form of light which passes harmlessly through
your skin, targeting only the hair shaft and follicle. This burst
of light energy is strong enough to damage the hair, but not harm
the skin. The damage is sufficient to delay future growth for
several months.
How many treatments will I need?
Every individual hair on your body has three continuous phases
of life: a growth phase, a rest phase and a hair loss phase, which
repeats itself throughout your life. These phases vary according
to body location and individual body variants, such as your hair
color, thickness, location and your own natural growth cycles.
Treatments
are most effective during the hair's growth phase. Since all
of your hairs are in various life phases
at different
times, it may take several procedures to "catch" and
treat each hair during its growth phase.
The
purpose of the Medlite IV is to provide you, the customer, with
an appropriate treatment satisfaction level,
which we can
define as "sufficient removal of hair per treatment session,
with significant growth delay, to yield a cosmetically satisfactory
result". This includes such important treatment considerations
as: safety, effectiveness, speed, treatment comfort, recovery
time and cost. The Medlite IV provides the most positive treatment
when all factors are considered.
What will the treatment feel like?
You will feel a tingling sensation as the laser light touches
your skin. Since the light is actually pulsing at a very high
speed, you may also feel the pulsing sensation against your skin.
What parts of the body can be treated?
Any skin areas can be treated. The Medlite IV also helps relieve
painful and unsightly chronic ingrown hairs, commonly associated
with shaving a man's beard or woman's bikini line.
How fast is the procedure?
The Medlite IV works very fast, pulsing light at 10 flashes per
second! Your technician will be able to treat most any area within
a relatively short period of time.
Will it effect my skin color?
No,
the Medlite IV can safely and effectively treat all skin colors
with virtually no risk of
pigmentary changes.
Will I have any after effects from the treatments?
Dark hair may turn white during the treatment, but will easily
slough off in 2 to 3 weeks. If you wish, you may immediately shave
off whiten hair in visible areas. Shaving after treatment will
not alter the results. Your skin may be slightly reddened for
a brief time. Otherwise no treatment effects should be visible.
Does laser hair removal work for everyone?
The Medlite IV works best on dark hair and does
not work well on blond hair. It has no effect on white hair.
